Dear all,

I am pursuing my M.Tech in Nuclear Engineering. Currently i am working on Fuel Sub-Assemblies bowing in a Fast Breeder Reactor. I am using a FEM software, ANSYS. I am unable to give swelling, due to neutron induction parameter to my model. If anyone is having any idea about how to give pls help me.You can send any tutorials in ANSYS regarding swelling please mail to hebbar1987@gmail.com.
Thanks in advance.

For linear/eigen value buckling, it is very simple. After solving, in general postprocessor menu, buckling modes are displayed in "results summary".

Please tell me, for nonlinear buckling???

I performed fatigue analysis for 2205 duplex stainless steel pipe but I noticed from the result allowable cycles that supposed to be calculated by ansys is constant(1e8) in the different locations. and the alternating stress value is too small. so what the source of error that I made?. to explain further I presumed that pipe exposed to two events each one of them include two loads.
any advice is highly appreciated
I have even given the L2 norm and did some hit & trial with the Reference & tolerance limits in Solution & controls for Convergence Criterion Analysis data feed. I have even increased the no. of sub-steps in the Load step, still not working,

i am facing problem in using the software because it gives me the error that server has exited or could not connect to ansysli_port_server
the ansys documentation says that this issue has benn resolved in version 13 service pack 2
howvever, recently ansys has changed its customer portal settings and the students can no longer use download section.
i would be extremely obliged if anyone can provide me the links to the dvd image files for ansys 13 for both win 32 platform and win 64 bit platform
i have contacted the university professor in this regard and he says that it will take some time to get this downloaded and later distributed amongst students, but this is causing me huge loss as i cannot use workbench or fluent at all

Hi, I'm Attapon
Nice to meet you, everyone

Now, I'm graduated student in mechanical engineering.
I try to use ansys mechanical apdl to analyze my part design.

I created part in pro/e with mm-unit system
(such as 1000mm X 1000mm X 1000mm of part dimensions)
and export to ansys with parasolid file.

So I would like to know when I imported parasolid file in to ansys apdl,
What are dimension and unit that ansys apdl can see ?
(It still be the same as I created in pro/e ? or I have to scale it)

Thank in advance

I'm moving from using ADPL to using Workbench but cannot see how to mesh shells.

In ADPL meshing with shell elements is done by selecting the element type you would like to use (e.g. SHELL209 for axisymmetric shells), entering a shell thickness, then meshing the geometry previously created. For the thin walled pressure vessels I'm designing this works well.

In Workbench I can create a thin shell in the modeler by selecting thin/shell during extrusion. This is then meshed using 3D elements which are either very skewed or overnumerous.

Alternatively I can create a zero thickness shell in the modeler by extruding a line. The mesher will mesh this, but I can find nowhere to specify a thickness. When I try and solve the model with some forces and pressures the solver cannot run as there is no volume specified.

I am sure I'm missing something very simple, for instance a menu that allows the element type to be changed to shell. If anyone knows how to model shells in Workbench please help.

Hello to all ANSYS experts in this forum.

my goal is to have a conformal meshes on surface bodies.

1. Generated two solid bodies in WB and did 'SurFromFaces' to get surface bodies. Put those in 'Form New Part' and did 'Share Topology'
Then Mesh. -- No problem.

2. Imported a IGS geometry from SolidWorks -- Two solids.
did 'SurFromFaces' to get surface bodies. Put those in 'Form New Part' and did 'Share Topology' Then Mesh. -- Problem. Didnt get conformal meshes.

I also tried STEP form from SW and didnt work either.

Is there anything I am missing here?

Really appreciate your help well in advance.

Hey

I tried to use Ansys, that takes about one month. But I haven't still manage to create a correct model.
I want to find strenght of K joint with tubular section by FEM analysis ( Ansys). So the point is not how to create the model how to mesh it.
I already know what is the strenght of joint by using some formulas given by CIDECT. When I want to model an example given in this book for a correct K joint.
I always found a stress ( Von -Mises) higher than the yield stress of the material. That means that the joint is not correct.
When I decrease the size of element, the stress is decreasing that seems really normal, But when I refine the mesh around the connection part of the joint. The stress at this part increases, don't seems stop to a correct value.
Any idea what is my mistake to model this K Joint?
Really appreciate if someone can give me a hand.

Charles

Hi everone,

I'm kind of new to Ansys.

I'm using ANSYS 12.1 and currently when i use the steady state thermal analysis on two geometries I observed that the heat does not conduct to the other geometry even though the connection already show that they are bonded.

Need help.

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask a question corcerning a posibility to simulate drying process of a fiber material (i.e cotton towel). I am doing my PhD. and investigate this possibility in ANSYS Fluent 13.0

At the present I set the simulation this way:

1. geometry - there is a pipe and porous volume inside. Hot air (mass flow) is defined at the inlet. Porous volume should have represented i.e. cotton towel.
2. I used Multiphase-Eulerian model, 3 phases (air, water, vapor); there is mass transfer-evaporation set in phases interaction dialog box. It looks that evaporation works quite well.
3. water is PATCHed in porous volume cell zone as volume fraction after initialization

By this steps i would want simulate drying but I am not sure whether I can use porous volume (porous zone) for this. Problem occures when hot air is passing through porous zone - than the water escapes this porous zone after short time (circa 0.8 sec). Simulation is set as transient (time step 0,001sec). Porous coeficients was set the way reflecting real test (pressure drop in the pipe).

Has anybode some information about possibilities to simulate this case. i think that main goal is find out how to "hold" water phase in porous zone longer time and evaporate it- means do not allow to escape it immediately with passing air.

Unfortunatelly I can not use Ansys customer portal to ask the experts because our university doesn´t have maintenance.

Thanks a lot for any information.

Same problem for me, both ones. I'm using Ansys 13 and after 3-4 iterations i got next message "unknown parameter name = _Z3 found,a value of 7.88860905E-31 will b used." what does it means and how can i fix it. And also, how can i maximize the objective function instead of the minimize (default)?
