Hello,

My self Nikit Patwa. I have done B.Tech in Mechanical engineering and having 5 years of industrial experience. I want to do Masters in Solid Mechanics and my primary interest is to pursue my career in FEA side.
I am very much familiar with all CAD softwares and having fundamental knowledge of FEA with Ansys. I am also very good in Strength of Materials subject.
Before I get in to masters I want to learn FEA thoroughly as I presume that during studies I can’t spare enough separate time in FEA.
I have 1year time from now to do this self study of FEA. I would like your clear guideline how to deal with it. I also want to study complete mathematics behind it.
Also one thing always wonders me that why programming of FEA code is required as there are many softwares available in the market with enhanced ELEMENT libraries ready to use. One can use this software for their problem to solve. But still I can see that HYPERMESH software and could be many more softwares are there for meshing and programming at the same time. Please give your valuable guidance in that also.

If you know more from my side please let me know. Waiting for your generous response

In some examples of tutorials, the suggested element does not exist in the element types of my software. An example is the element called "Beam 2D elastic 3". Where can I use and find these elements which apparently do not exist?

Thanks a lot

Hi everyone,

I am modeling a 3D magnet and a solenoid. The magnet is moving at a speed (constant or not), and it is moving towards to the solenoid, which is static (fixed to the ground). I want to model the emf and induced current on the solenoid, due to the change of magnetic flux density coming from the magnet.

So far, I have written ANSYS program, but keep getting warning like "Real constant set 1 undefined but referenced by element 1..", I have searched as many ways as I can to fix this error, but couldn't solved the problem at all.

Can anybody give me some suggestion please? Thanks so much!!!!

And I use nonlinier solver about "Sol'n Control Solution". But after all when i use current LS, there ara problem like " (!) TB,MELA Plasticity option is not currently supported by Element type 187 (Element 1 and material 1)". And I hope you can give me the best solver about the element, and other problem solfer for it. Thank you..

Hello everyone,

I am new to this thread and had a couple of questions regarding the use of ANSYS in dentistry.
Just a little bit about myself to put my question in context. I am a graduate student and am completing a research project on bone regeneration using a certain protein. I am basing my study off a previous study that successfully used this protein to regenerate bone defects in a mandible.

What I would like to do is define the biomechanical characteristics of this regenerated bone by simulating the response of the regenerated bone to stress/strain during normal function such as chewing. I currently have micro-ct scans that I am hoping I can import into a mesh software that will allow me to make my model.

I have little experience in using finite element to model this scenario which is why I am asking you all for your input as to how I can move forward in answering my research question. I have done some research on how Finite element works and understand the basics, but I would need help in using the ANSYS software. Do you all feel this is a feasible task for someone with my background. Do any of you recommend any resources or know of any people that may be helpful in the Southern California area? Thanks in advance for your input.

Hello,
I am doing Fluid structure interaction study using ANSYS. does anybody has good tutorial or reading material on it. I did FSI problem in ANSYS workbench, but it does not have flexibility in choosing the element type and other things, so i am thinking of using coupled field analysis in ANSYS using MFX approach. Help given in ANSYS is good but still i am facing some errors in simulation.

I am new to Ansys and want to do a 3D contact analysis of a cylindrical type volume pressing onto a base with a groove on it. The radius of the groove and the radius of the groove are different.

I can upload my log file which will help indicate my problem if required.

I am unsure whether to use node-to-surface or surface-to-surface contact analysis. I want to put a pressure onto the top face of the upper volume and see some deformation in the lower base and the contact area increasing in size.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as to how to go about this.

Thanks

I like to know how to RANDOMLY select a fixed amount of elements (say 10%) within an element set (i.e after this command "esel,mat,1")
after which i would like to change the selected elements to material 2 using mpchg.

Dear all
I'm trying to model a free end beam on elastic foundation. The parameters are length of beam=120 inches, breadth of beam=12 inches, height of beam=20inches, E=29000ksi, subgrade modulus,k=0.25k/in3=3k/in2. I modeled the whole beam with 7 elements. The beam is modeled as 2D elastic beam elements and foundations are modeled as combin14 springs. the stiffness of each spring is 3*120/7=51.429k/in.
for modeling the springs i placed dummy nodes at 2inches below each of the beam element nodes and connected them using the combin14 element. the bottom nodes are then fixed at all dofs. when i analyze with this configuration, there is an error saying that there is at least 1 number of zero pivot in eqn. matrix system. Could anybody tell me what seems to be the problem.
Thanks in advance.

I want to verifty my steady state thermal solution by checking that heat load in is equal to heat out.

My question is how can I integrate the normal heat flux over a particular area (for example, top surface of a cube) using the post-processor in ANSYS ADPL?

I'm trying to model a large section of soil subjected to impact loads.

Since the soil should behave like an elastic half-space, I need to set some non-reflecting boundary conditions (NRB).

According to the manual, I should select the desired nodes with the NSEL command, creating a component from all those nodes with CM and finally apply the non-reflecting boundaries with EDNB, turning on the Dilatational activation flag and the Shear activation flag.

Input-wise,it comes down to:
NSEL,S,LOC,X,hx !selecting all desired nodes
CM,planox,NODE !creating the component from the nodes
EDNB,ADD,planox,1,1 !adding the non-reflecting boundary to it

However, I'm getting the exact same results with free boundaries, the NRBs aren't changing anything, I still get lots of reflected waves.

I'm using 3dsolid164 elements, with linear-elastic isotropic material.

Has anyone been able to use this boundaries correctly?

If more information about the model is needed do say, I'm just boiling it down to the essentials.

Hi..
may be you have imported your model from another software, if yes check your model again... if your model is meshed then try couple dof option to the all the nodes that must have coincided...

if you put your model in ansys gui recheck your model or create lines using ansys commands where there is difficulty " L,KP#,KP# " .
it is " L,line Starting keypioint no.,line Starting keypioint no."

to see the no. of each Kp and line goto
" main menu >plot controls > Numbering > Kp:on lines:on > ok "

thanx for ur support.. there is a new problem awaiting.. when i make the frame of chassis using keypoints and lines. lines do not join properly at single point. like if there are 4 lines meeting at a point then 2 of them are in contact while the other two are not sittiting at the required point. though this is visible only after very high zoom. but on applying force joint breaks... what can i do

ansys doesn't follow any particular unit system.. you must do the conversions all manually and feed in the correct magnitude as input, to get the desired output...

when you are using the inbuilt material library, you can specify the units to define the material properties.
